Carers

If you provide help and support to a partner or spouse, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who due to a disability, illness or frailty cannot manage in the community without help, then you are a carer.

Many people with caring responsibilities do not identify themselves as carers. The support which carers provide is unpaid. Carers can be of any age and may or may not live with the person they care for.

We can offer a range of services to help with your caring responsibilities or if you need more time for yourself. These can include:

  • help in the home
  • community meals
  • day care for the cared for person
  • respite care - a break, provided in a variety of settings, including your own home
  • short stay in residential or nursing home
  • information on carers benefits - you may be entitled to certain financial support.

If you are a parent/carer caring for a child and need support, please visit the Children's Trust pages for more information.

Redbridge Carers Emergency Alert Card

The Carers Emergency Alert Card has been developed in partnership with Redbridge Lifeline and Redbridge Crossroads, to help give you peace of mind in the event of an unplanned emergency such as a family crisis or accident.

Anyone caring for an adult (18 and over) who lives in Redbridge can apply for an Emergency Alert Card.
