Redbridge i scoops top award

LGC awards winner logoRedbridge Council has taken home a prestigious award for its ground-breaking innovative website Redbridge i.

The Council’s revolutionary website has earned the prize for ‘innovation’ at the Local Government Chronicle Awards.

The result was announced at a Gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday 25 March.

The awards seek to recognise the very best in Local Government and judges were looking for projects that have not only broken new ground but can demonstrate that they have had a major impact on service delivery and the lives of local people.

They were exceptionally impressed with Redbridge i which is increasingly being cited as the benchmark for local government website innovation.

Angela Bernard, Web Manager for Redbridge Council, said, "We are extremely proud to be the winners of the LGC’s prestigious 'Innovation Award'. Our success has strengthened our team identity and given everyone in the teams a tremendous boost and encouragement that our ground-breaking website has achieved what it set out to do - deliver a range of services, offer interactive consultation and features that are on a totally different platform.

"The impact on our residents lives has been clear and a huge thank you goes out to our residents, who have helped us to shape and develop the website to meet a wide range of their everyday needs in a more interactive way. We are pleased that Redbridge i is has been recognised for leading the way."

The website allows users to customise the home page design and has enabled the Council to build new relationships and new forms of interaction with residents.

Since the websites launch in June 2007 the number of unique visitors per month has increased from 45,600 to 133,700 and Redbridge i now has more than 21,000 registered users.

The website has been used for more than 7,000 online job applications, more than £8m in online payments and more than 5,800 messages posted in 615 topics in the discussion forums.

Redbridge Council beat off competition from Dacorum, Ealing, Glasgow City Council, Islington and Newcastle City Council for the award.
