Walk Redbridge: exploring the borough on foot
Walking just got easier!
The Culture, Sport and Community Learning Service has just
published its first self-walk map for residents who want to walk in
their own time and at their own pace.
Having run the Walk to Health
programme for six years, it became evident that whilst many
people enjoy these weekly walks with qualified walk leaders, there
are still a great deal of people with work or family commitments
which prevent them from joining these organised walks.
The Redbridge Sport and Physical Activity Team therefore set
about devising a self-walk programme resulting in the "Walk
Redbridge" brochure.
The brochure features:
Why is walking good?
- Increases energy levels
- Burns calories
- Relieves stress
- Reduces risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart attacks and
high blood pressure.
- Improves muscle and bone strength.
- Improves circulation.
- Calms the mind and provides an ideal opportunity to explore
your local area.
- It's free!
The Walk Redbridge brochure is designed to make it as
easy as possible for you to start leisure walking. It
gives bus routes to the walks' starting points and grades each walk
depending on the type terrain.
Walking really hasn't been easier! Pick up your copy of Walk
Redbridge from your local library or telephone 020 8708 3044 to be
sent a free copy.
Walk Redbridge is part of the Healthy
Lifestyles Programme and is supported by Living
Streets.
