Community Fit Club: your questions answered
With such an innovative format and exciting programme, you are
bound to have lots of questions. So, the Sport and Physical
Activity Team have compiled the following list of common questions
and answers. If your question is not listed here, please call 020
8708 0955 to discuss the programme in more depth with our Sports
Team.
What is Community Fit Club?
Community Fit Club is a healthy weight management programme. It's
for people who are overweight and want to lose weight in a
sustainable way. It's also a great way of introducing people to new
activities as exercise is a big part of the programme.
When is it on?
It takes place on Saturdays from 10 am to 11 am at Fullwell
Cross Leisure Centre.
How does it work?
You come along each week to a group session and you are weighed.
Then you take part in a workshop on one of our healthy living
themes. We will be giving you lifestyle challenges to do. Then you
will be given tow vouchers to attend two activity sessions over the
next week.
How much does it cost?
It costs £6 per week to attend which you'll agree is incredible
value considering it includes two activities. There's also a
one-off joining fee of £6.
Is it delivered by experts?
Yes, you can be reassured that you will be in good hands. Our
instructors are very friendly and knowledgeable. In fact, we
believe that you have a bit of the expert in you too and we'll be
helping you to find the confidence to develop your own skills and
knowledge about your health and fitness. All of our advice is based
on evidence and knowing what works best for losing weight in a
healthy way and keeping the weight off.
What is the healthy eating plan based
on?
We have a double approach to food. We work with the 'Eatwell
Plate', which is a tool developed by nutritionists to show you the
best balance of the different food groups you should be eating
for optimum health. We also provide you with a unique daily
calorie target, based on your weight, height and age. This will
tell you how much you should eat each day, because even though we
want to help you to eat a more balanced diet, we realise that
you can still eat too much healthy food and we want to help
you to lose weight. We also provide lots of easy to use worksheets
to help you keep track of where you are at in your personalised
programme.
Which activities can I
access?
We have put together a list of activities, which are inclusive with
your weekly Community Fit Club membership. You can choose up to 2
of these and pick activities that suit your requirements and
interests best. Details will be available at each weekly
weigh-in session. There will be a range of classes at Wanstead
Leisure centre, Fullwell Cross and Redbridge Cycling Centre.
I'm new to activities which ones will
suit me?
Many new members to Community Fit Club haven't done any exercise
for a long time. We always recommend that you start gently and
build up as your strength and fitness improves. We offer a wide
range of activities to suit all levels and we can help you to
choose the activitiesactvities that are most suited to you.
