Ray Park

Facilities

Ray Park is a large park which boasts large expanses of green space with good sporting facilities such as newly refurbished tennis courts and a full size football pitch.

This park is a good hub that offers great activities for families and is situated in a large residential area.

It benefits from a mature landscape, encompassing the River Roding and offers great space for informal sport, dog walking and leisurely strolls.

The James Leal Centre (formally known as Ray Lodge) opened to the public on 12 December 2009.  Its main objectives are to increase public access to the Roding Valley and Ray Park and offer high quality training at low cost to voluntary groups.  Our Nature Conservation Team are based at the centre offering talks, events and information regarding nature, history etc within this area.

Ray Park Play Area was upgraded in 2009 and recognised by the Secretary of State for Children, Ed Balls as a shining example of a good quality play design based upon community involvement.  Featuring mounds, tunnels, a sand pit with fossils, a space net and a bridge, the new provision is almost all made from natural materials.  Reeds have been planted by the sand to create the impression of a dried riverbed and there are quieter areas and planter seats for a more sensory experience.  Older equipment also remains providing an extensive play area, for more details of investment in new play areas within Redbridge see our Timetable.

January 2010 saw the installation of the adiZone, a giant multi-sport outdoor gym with a basketball, football and tennis area, a climbing wall, an outdoor gym and an open area to encourage dance, aerobics and gymnastics. Designed and developed by adidas, Official Sportswear Partner of London 2012 and inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the equipment is free and available to use during park opening hours.
