Parks and Open Spaces
The Borough enjoys one of the best living environments in
London, though only
seven
miles from the City. Parts of Epping Forest lie within
its boundaries to the north of the Borough.
Redbridge residents enjoy large open expanses of green space and
urban parkland, some of which have lakes, zoo, historic
buildings and gardens, sports clubs
and associations and cycle routes.
Several of the parks have a wide range of sports facilities, including children's play areas which has recently had
significant funding from awarding bodies such as the DCSF, BIG
Lottery. In the summer, the parks host programme of
children's activities, community events, concerts, open-air theatre
and funfairs. Please check the events
diary for more details of events within our parks.
Green Flag Status
Two of the Borough’s popular open spaces have been honoured with
a prestigious quality award.
Elmhurst Gardens and Hainault Forest Country Park have both been
awarded Green Flag status, the national
standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales which
recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country.
Urban parks
These are Goodmayes, Clayhall, South, Seven Kings, Loxford and
Ray Park - not forgetting other havens such as Barley Lane
Recreation Ground, Salway Gardens, Christchurch Green and Westwood
Recreation Ground, to name but a few.
