Black History Month for Schools at Redbridge Museum
During Black History Month there will be a chance for teachers
to find out about new Museum sessions and to bring
their classes along.
Sessions for KS1 and 2
Multicultural toys and games throughout the ages
Children will get to view and play with toys and games from
around the world and to compare and contrast them with modern toys,
and toys from the past. KS2 children will have the opportunity to
discuss the evolution of the toys and games and the myths and
stories behind the games.
KS1 Old and New, Contrasting Localities, Materials, Life in the
past. KS 2 Multiculturalism, PSHE, Life in the past
Sessions for KS2
Suitcase stories
Using the experiences of local people, children will discover
the reasons why people moved to London in the 1950s and 1960s from
the Caribbean, and Londoner's reactions to them. Children will get
to unpack a suitcase full of memories and objects from the period
and investigate the Museum for stories of immigration. (KS2 Local
History, PSHE, Multiculturalism, Britain since 1930).
Black and Asian contributions to WW2
This session will explore the contributions of people around the
world to the Allied war effort during World War Two. Using evidence
from local people children will get to examine two examples of
the war effort; on the home front and in the forces. Children will
also get the chance to listen to an ARP siren and explore an
Anderson shelter.(KS2 Local history, Britain since 1930).
Sessions for KS3
Historical interpretation and Citizenship and Diversity
The material used in the KS1 and KS2 sessions and the Museum
displays could enhance KS3 discussions of identity, diversity and
interpretation of historical sources. Please contact the Education
Officer if you would like to bring a group to the Museum and to
discuss your requirements and particular interests.
