Joining a library

Who can
join?
Anyone who can provide us with proof of UK
residence, permanent or temporary, is eligible to join. There is no
minimum age limit and you don't even have to live within the
borough.
Once you have joined you will be able to use
all the libraries in Redbridge as well
as the other boroughs in our expanding consortium, currently:
If you are already a member of a library in any of the above
boroughs then you do not need to join. Your existing card will work
in Redbridge.
Are there any fees or charges?
No, joining the library is completely free. We
do, however, have small charges for some services. See Charges for more information.
What do I need to join?
In order to join, go to your nearest library
and fill out an application form. You will need to provide us with
proof of current name and address. We accept the following:
- Social Security / Family Allowance Book
- Council Tax demand
- Current Credit Card Statement
- Bank / Building Society statement
- Current Utility Bill (gas, water, electricity, phone)
- Driving Licence
- Medical Card
We regret that we are unable to accept:
- envelopes
- travel passes
- student union permits
- cheque books without addresses
- handwritten receipts
- photocopies
- or any document that is more than three
months old.
What about children?
Children under 14
must:
- have their application signed by their parent
or guardian
- this must include their date of birth
- proof of address is not required.
International students
If you are studying temporarily in the UK then you are welcome
to join Redbridge Libraries. If you cannot prove your address in
one of the ways explained above then an official letter from your
college or university that states your temporary address in the UK
will be sufficient.
